Leaders
Guide leaders are responsible for the safe running of the Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Ranger units for the girls. They try to make sure that the girls experience a programme in which
- they work together in small groups.
- they are encouraged to govern themselves and make their own decisions.
- they have a balanced and varied programme.
- they care for the individual.
- they share a commitment to a common standard.
Anyone who decides to become a Unit Leader or Assistant Leader has to complete the Girlguiding UK Leadership Qualification. This is based on practical experience as a Leader and is linked with the guider's actual experience within the unit. Training is provided, when required, in specific skills such as First Aid. The leadership Scheme gives all new Leaders a valuable introduction to Guiding.
Unit Leaders and Assistant Leaders will be given plenty of support during the qualification process by their own mentors, their Commissioner and other Guide Leaders in their local area. Guide Leaders are full members of the Guide Association and are covered by the Association's Insurance.
