NEW PRESIDENT FOR NOTTINGHAMSHIRE GUIDES
The President of Girlguiding Nottinghamshire Jane Allen is to retire and her successor will be Anne Allery. Anne started her Guiding life as a Brownie and Guide in Chilwell and then a Ranger in Beeston. As an adult she became an Assistant Guider with 3rd Chilwell Guides in 1964 becoming Division Commissioner for Beeston in 1982 and County Commissioner in 1987. In 1992 she took on the role of International Adviser to the Midlands Region and followed this by becoming Deputy Regional Chief Commissioner in 1995 until 2000. She has also been an Assistant Rainbow Guider, County PR Adviser, Chairman of the Elton Campsites Committee and Chairman of the Nottinghamshire Guides Centenary 2010 Committee.
Asked what she best remembers about her Guiding experiences she replied “Snorkelling at Our Cabana, in Mexico where I got a sunburned bottom because I forgot that that part of me was out of the water. Learning to ski at Our Chalet in Switzerland and visiting Sangam in India and working with the local community. I also enjoyed being ‘Aunty Anne’ to members of the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra.”
