Queen's Guide

Elaine Davey, Queen's Guide Co-ordinator

I was a Brownie in Essex before moving to Nottingham and then a Brownie Guide and Ranger in Woodthorpe. I trained as a Primary school teacher and on returning from college took over the Guide Unit I had attended. A few years later the numbers grew so large that we formed another unit and from then until July 2007 I was involved as a Guider or Assistant Guider with both units. From time to time I also ran a Ranger Unit.

I have been both District and Division Commissioner and a trainer. My main interest has always been in International Guiding and I still travel with Guiding whenever I can.

As Queen's Guide co-ordinator I keep record of all those working on the award in the county. I send out forms and sign record books for candidates. I am ready to answer or at least try to find the answer to the questions that candidates ask.

I am willing to talk to anyone interested in doing the award. They must be at least 16 years old and to finish the award before their 26th birthday. The award has to be completed in 3 years. I can visit Ranger and Young Leader groups or prospective candidates can come to the introductory session held each year.

I also run a group called 'Helping Hands'. We are mostly retired Guiders who are willing to come into units and run activities or be an extra pair of hands. Contact me if you would like any of us to help you.

Baden Powel Challenge Award

This award is the highest that can be awarded in the Guide Section. Before starting, a Guide must have gained two Challenge badges and two Interest badges, she shouls therefore be at least 12 years old. Every guide must complete a special residential event called a 'B.P. Adventure'. On completing the 10 challenges the guide should send in the 'Adventure' page from her G-file. This will ensure that she receives the information about an Adventure. These are run regularly by different divisions.

If you are interested in helping on or running an adventure please contact me.
